Alter Ego

Most people have an alter ego.

To maintain their alter ego they usually interact with the world through their alter ego in an unnatural environment.

If they’re not in that unnatural environment they’re with their immediate family.

The problem is that the alternative to this is usually quite awkward.

If you don’t have your own family and you don’t live near your biological family you can only interact with the world through study or work.

Most people meet their friends and life partners at university.

So if you work for yourself and you don’t attend University that leaves you with your biological family or your family.

If you don’t have your own family or live near your biological family then you’re really in trouble…

We’re social creatures and we’re meant to be, it’s natural and healthy for us to want to connect with other people, seeking belonging is a natural impulse.

If you’re psychologically healthy then you’ll want to connect with other people, have a family, work with people, travel, experience different cultures and grow as a person by interacting fully with the world.

If you have experienced pain then you may try and run away from the world.

People run away by:

  1. Getting drunk whenever they relax
  2. Taking drugs whenever they relax
  3. Working constantly
  4. Avoiding their family
  5. Not having a family
  6. Scrolling through social media
  7. Shopping
  8. Moving to another country
  9. Getting divorced instead of working through their differences.
  10. Seeking fame and adulation instead of seeking real connections with real people.
  11. By posting to social media constantly.
  12. By not having friends
  13. By consuming pornography constantly
  14. By being addicted to exercise
  15. By avoiding real intimacy and emotional attachment
  16. By attracting other people that are emotionally unavailable
  17. By watching movies or funny clips on YouTube too often
  18. By eating emotionally
  19. By being successful and not trying to share that success with anyone.
  20. By creating a life that enables them to escape from their emotions easily.

If you enjoy your own company then that’s great but it’s important to engage with people when you’re not working or studying.

It’s important to connect with people that aren’t paying you in some way regularly.

So if you don’t connect with people unless they’re:

  1. Working for you
  2. Working with you
  3. Living with you
  4. Studying with you
  5. Your siblings or children
  6. Married to you
  7. Providing you with a service

Then you have a problem.

People should connect with others organically on a regular basis.

If you maintain friendships with people because you enjoy their company and you’re not living with them, working with them or related to them through marriage or biology then you’ll be much happier!

Engage with your local community regularly, start a group or a business that will attract other people that share your interest.

Live with passion!
